Remedial School
Prime Trust runs a remedial school in Orleanpet village, an impoverished area in the outskirts of Pondicherry. The staff runs classes for children ranging from four to twelve years old Monday through Saturday between 6 pm and 8 pm. The children attend a government school during the day, but the remedial school offers extra tutoring, English courses, as well as snacks and supplies. The school is funded by LACIM, a donor agency in France.
Child Sponsorship
Prime Trust's staff develops close relationships with the children of the Remedial School. It also learns of the needs of the children who live in its SHG communities. One reoccurring need is financial support for further schooling. In response, Prime Trust offers a Child Sponsorship program in which a donor can cover a child’s education expenses. Children's Parliament
On a monthly basis, Prime Trust staff runs Children’s Parliament day-programs in our Remedial School, for children in the Self-Help Group communities, and to partner organizations. The program allows children aged 9 to 14 years-old to engage in local, national and international democratic processes.
Orphanage
Since Prime Trust is very involved in the well-being of the children in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu, the staff reguarly visits a few surrounding orphanages to organise youth programmes. We start children's parliaments and run leadership activities.
